It has long been a gripe of many that Austin City Limits does not showcase enough Local Latino artists in their shows. While there have been a few notable exceptions, for the most part, the festival has failed to give a voice to the many talented Latino artists in our city.
One of the main reasons for this lack of representation is the festival’s booking process. ACL is known for booking bigger, more mainstream acts, which often means leaving out the locals. This is a shame because so many incredible Latino musicians in Austin deserve a spot on the lineup.
In addition, ACL has been criticized for its lack of diversity in general. The festival has been accused of favoritism when it comes to booking artists, often giving preference to those who are white and male. This has led to a feeling among many that ACL is not truly representative of our city’s diverse population.
It’s time for Austin City Limits to step up and start showcasing more Local Latino artists. Our city is one of the most culturally rich in the country, and it deserves to be represented on one of its biggest stages. Let’s hope that ACL can make some changes in the coming years and start giving a voice to all of Austin’s talented musicians.
