The new sanctuary movement of Philadelphia prepares for deportations that is expected to cause huge disruptions for those who willl be arrested, detained and deported, but also to the economy and American civic life. There are 47,000 undocumented people in Philadelphia, part of 153,000 statewide, with an additional 440,000 in New Jersey. Mass deportation will cost the American government around $88 billion a year, with ancillary costs bringing a 10–year total to $967.9 billion.
